Review: Azealia Banks – Fantasea

Azealia Banks is determined to stay in your face right now, she released an absolutely killer EP ’1991′ back in May and she’s just dropped her Mixtape ‘Fantasea’ this morning after numerous pushbacks, and whats more, it is available to download for free. Yes, free, here: http://wtrns.fr/V64QsmR72cwWnnM

For those who don’t know what a mixtape is, it is a compilation of conceptual songs that revolve around a theme which represent and/or indicate what the album will sound like when it’s released. Kind of like the opening act before the main show. It’s fairly common to release a mixtape with urban music/artists.

Azealia has been dropping songs almost every week from Fantasea, like Nathan, Neptune, Aquababe, and older songs like Jumanji, F*** Up The Fun and even L8R, which was released years ago.

The theme that Fantasea revolves around is Mermaids and the sea, funnily enough. Whoever it is that’s designing Azealia’s single covers – I ****ing love it! I’m a graphic designer so I especially appreciate them.

Fantasea is a really decent mixtape, some of the tracks I can take or leave and I wouldn’t say any of it is as good the 1991 EP but its got decent vibes, lyrical genius moments and big enough sounds to keep the hype up or everyone excited for ‘Broke With Expensive Taste’. You know that when the opening song features The Prodigy’s ‘Out of Space’ that your dealing with something crazy.

It’s practically filled to the brim with attitude, swag, beats and potty mouthing. So if you haven’t checked out Azealia Banks yet for some bizarre reason then ‘Fantasea’ is the perfect reason to get to grips with what you’ll be witnessing in a couple of months time.

Favoured tracks: F*** Up The Fun, Nathan, Esta Noche, Luxury.
